A Coaching Model By Jun Wang
Sustainable Business Coach, GERMANY
I was inspired to create the WANG Coaching Model by the legacy that is represented in my family name. WANG, which is represented by the Chinese character “王,” is not only a name but also a representation of ancestors’ devotion and nobleness. It is now based on a revolutionary coaching methodology. The metaphor gains additional meaning from the letter 掋’s natural stroke order, which corresponds with the W-A-N-G sequence in the WANG Coaching Model. The orchestrated striking motion reflects a natural evolution of the coaching framework, placing greater emphasis on the importance of each component. For me, coaching in the field of sustainable leadership is a passionate mission rather than merely a career choice.

I started my blog, The Balance Box, where I share my ideas, observations, resources, and comments on juggling life’s hectic schedule. I’ve written three blog entries lately about striking a balance and navigating life’s path for my research project. To maintain good mental health, at least most of the time, we must strike a balance between happy and negative emotions. In fact, according to Dr. Maureen Gaffney’s book Thriving, to be joyful, one must have a least thriving ratio of 3:1 between positive and negative thoughts. Achieving equilibrium, particularly spiritual equilibrium, enables us to connect with our inner nature. Through fearless, radical acceptance of ourselves and others, we may rise to the difficulties of life. For me, everyday practice is necessary for spiritual equilibrium.

In a coaching situation, as well as in life in general, clients can greatly benefit by pausing to recognize and accept the existence of cognitive biases. It aids clients in making logical choices that are consistent with their beliefs and selves. It can also help create goals and action plans that are more likely to be lasting and beneficial. For instance, just being aware of the projection bias can help us become more savvy grocery shoppers by enabling us to avoid shopping on an empty stomach and to create guidelines to counteract the bias’s effects. We can then use this knowledge to make better decisions about what to buy or how to respond to physical signs of hunger or current emotions.

Job burnout prevention and recovery through coaching is the subject of my research. I’ve discovered along my ICA journeys the immense benefits that coaching can have for clients in a variety of areas, including leadership, relationships, career, and change. Among them, career coaching—more specifically, career search and career transition, helping clients start or advance their careers—was my source of inspiration before joining this program. My interest has since broadened to include workers’ well-being while they are at work, and career coaches may investigate this topic for improved performance and talent retention on both an individual and organizational level. I’ve discovered that one of the primary causes of this is work burnout.

A Coaching Power Tool By Esther Lam

An “Aha moment” during one of my peer coaching sessions served as the initial inspiration for my coaching power tool, “Affirmation vs. Oblivion.” Questions I asked the client about how much she had done/how far she had gone while my client was focusing on what more she needed to do and how much longer she had to go to that specific topic we discussed caused a sea change in her moods, perspectives, and sense of agency and hope to emerge after that “Aha moment.” Since then, I’ve worked to improve and polish this tool and have used it in more coaching sessions. So far it has proven helpful in helping my clients change their perspective and gain confidence.

Think about “self-love” and what comes to mind. With growing public awareness of mental health issues in recent years, the phrase “self-love” has gained popularity. Using phrases like “you are worth it” and “treat yourself,” the commercial sector has recognized this trend and linked self-love to generosity and indulging oneself. Self-love appears to be an illusory idea, despite its widespread promotion. To improve our well-being, we need to learn more about the various aspects of self-love, as well as how to practice it daily. Every person has a unique style of relating to and caring for themselves, thus self-love might appear different for everyone.
