Coaching Model: Duet

2018/09/07

A Coaching Model Created by Marla Mortensen
(Life and Business Transition Coach, UNITED STATES)

First Movement

In the world of music, a duet is composed of two distinct yet equally important parts. A performer brings a level of personal expression rendering incredible beauty to his or her part. While beautiful, if performed alone, one part cannot realize the sound it was composed to achieve in the context of a duet. As the performers merge their individual parts, magic occurs creating a sound with magnificent depth and richness.

The duet, or partnership, in coaching is a process composed for the parts of coach and client. Each duet leads to a uniquely beautiful outcome based on the personal expression each client and coach brings to the process. This coaching duet creates a depth and richness designed to advance the goal attainment of the client.

Second Movement

The second movement of the duet coaching model is composed to optimize the partnership between knowledge and the coaching process. Again, each part plays a distinct but equally valuable role. Knowledge can drive the coaching process, or the coaching process can drive the acquisition of knowledge. When merged together, knowledge and the coaching process provide unique ideas and opportunities to once again advance the attainment of goals.
