Value

Valuing the importance and worth of developing good management skills and capabilities is to unlock your full potential and talents as a manager to help get the best out yourself and of others.

People and organisations thrive when managers recognize, are aware of and know how to effectively use their skills, talents and capabilities to: 

  • Set clear strategic direction & objectives
  • Build inclusive teams
  • Empower and motivate staff
  • Build capability
  • Lead & manage teams through change and ambiguity
  • Be effective under pressure
  • Manage underperformance; celebrate and nurture good performance
  • Prevent or manage conflict
  • Create a zero-tolerance culture for BHD & tackle inappropriate behaviour
  • Build resilience

VALUE is an effective model to help unlock and build awareness, inspire confidence and enhance your skill-sets to be an effective and more confident manager.

Believe

…to have a conviction that (a person or thing) is, has been, or will be engaged in a given action or involved in a given situation.*

…to have confidence in the truth, the existence, or the reliability of something, although without absolute proof that one is right in doing so.*

  • What do you believe are the skills (behaviours, abilities)of a good manager?
  • What kind of manager do you believe you are now?
  • What is your situation at the moment as a manager?
  • What do you believe is the impact of your management skills (behaviours, abilities) on others? Yourself?
  • What kind of manager do you want to be?
  • What’s motivating you to be the kind of manager you desire?
  • What do you believe is in your control to be the kind of manager you want to be?

Accept

…to take or receive, to accept an invitation, gift, position, etc. *

…to undertake responsibility, duties, honours, etc. *

  • What do you accept to be true about your own skills) as a manager at this moment?
  • What is your confidence level regarding your skills (behaviours, abilities) to be the manager you want to be?
  • How do you feel about this confidence level?
  • How do others feel about your skills (behaviours, abilities) as a manager?
  • What do you accept to be true regarding your own self-assessment and the feedback received from others?

Explore

… to search for; search out, to look into closely; scrutinize; examine*

… to engage*

  • What journey are you willing to explore to get the results you desire?
  • How inspired are you to go on this journey?
  • What do you need to do in order to be the manager you want to be?
  • What skills (behaviours, abilities) as a manager do you want (need) to develop in order to become the type of manager you want to be?
  • What’s your first step to getting your journey started?
  • What are the different ways in which you could explore and approach this issue?
  • Which of these solutions appeal to you most? Give you the most satisfaction?
  • What do you believe is in your control to be the kind of manager you want to be?
  • What would happen if you did nothing?

Unique

… the embodiment of unique characteristics*

… having no like or equal; unparalleled; incomparable.*

  • What would you say are your unique talents, characteristics as a manager?
  • How does your uniqueness encourage you as a manager?
  • How do (will) your unique talents and skills get the best out of yourself and your team?
  • What do you need to do to in order to strengthen and grow your unique talents?

Decide

… to determine or settle preference; come to a conclusion.*

… to solve or conclude (a question, controversy, or struggle) by giving victory to one side.*

  • What decisions do you need to make to move you toward becoming the manager you want to be?
  • How will you decide to move forward?
  • What are your first, second, third etc. steps to get your journey started??
  • How will you decide and identify the measurements for success?
  • What support do you need?
  • What will you do to obtain this support?
  • What other possible decisions do you need to consider making at this time?
  • How do you feel about the decisions you have made now about becoming the manager you desire to be?
  • What else would you like to talk about or are we finished?
