Be the Strongest Element
Can anyone raise their hand and give me a couple of traits that a strong leader may have?
Ex. Confidence, caring, takes initiative, proactive, etc.
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary describes a leader as “a person who has commanding authority or influence”
When we envision a leader, we see someone willing to go the extra mile, someone trustworthy, impactful, and capable of influencing others positively. What truly distinguishes a leader is their self-awareness. They exude confidence and inspire confidence in others, ultimately making a significant impact and influencing those around them.
The purpose of this coaching tool is to help you delve deeper into understanding yourself, reminding you of your purpose or “why,” and empowering you to become a leader who can influence others.
This course is designed with you as the strongest element, much like water. Why water, you might wonder? Well, water possesses the remarkable ability to adapt to any environment and make an impact. Similarly, our goal is for you to emerge from this course equipped to navigate the world, adapt to its challenges, and leave a lasting impact.
So let’s embark on this journey together, embracing our potential to influence, adapt to our situation, and inspire change.
Strongest Element Introduction:
Start with an ice breaker – (Slide of an ice breaker)
introduce yourself and have everyone group up and introduce themselves and ask each other a silly question.
- What was your first CD/record/single they ever bought?
- What is your favorite non-generic (random) animal?
- What was one of your biggest highlights during your teenage years?
- What do you like about yourself?
What Are You Made Of:
(Slide of a water drop hitting the earth)
Water is made up of two hydrogen atoms bonded to one oxygen atom, chemically represented as H2O. This simple molecular structure is the foundation of water’s properties and versatility. The hydrogen and oxygen atoms are held together by covalent bonds, with each hydrogen atom sharing one pair of electrons with the oxygen atom. Due to differences in electronegativity, the oxygen atom pulls the shared electrons closer to itself, creating a partial negative charge (δ-) on the oxygen and partial positive charges (δ+) on the hydrogen atoms. This polarity gives water its unique properties, such as its ability to dissolve a wide range of substances, exhibit surface tension, and form hydrogen bonds.
Alright now, just like water must know what it’s made up of before impacting let’s get personal.
Let’s get to know what we are made of: (get a pen or paper or pull up notes)
- What would your friends consider the best attributes about you?
- What have you always been known for?
- What are your strengths?
- What are some opportunities you can grow in?
- What are your top three values?
- What is your goal right now in life?
- Why is this goal?
- What is your purpose?
Lastly, review this list. Does your purpose align with this list?
Adapt:
One of the reasons why water is so prominent is that it gets into a situation, and begins to adapt to its environment.
Water exhibits remarkable adaptability, driven primarily by its unique molecular structure and properties. Water exists in three states—solid (ice), liquid, and gas (vapor)—depending on temperature and pressure. This versatility enables water to adapt to various environmental conditions, from forming ice caps in polar regions to circulating as vapor in the atmosphere. Water’s adaptability to various forms and conditions makes it an essential medium for supporting life on Earth. Its presence enables diverse ecosystems to thrive, from rainforests to deserts, providing habitats and resources for a wide range of organisms. Overall, water’s adaptability stems from its unique combination of physical and chemical properties, which allow it to exist in different forms and support diverse environments.
For us to be a strong element we must understand our barriers, adapt to the situations around us, and try to find a solution to make that impact.
- What situation do you find yourself in right now?
- Why is this a situation?
- What are things you will have to do to adapt to this situation?
- Now let’s put some time into this, how long do you think it will take for you to accomplish this goal?
- What are some short-term goals that you can do today, tomorrow, next week?
- What are long-term goals that you can do?
- What does resolving that situation look like?
Make an Impact:
Water’s impact on both the natural world and human civilization is profound and multifaceted. As the cornerstone of life, water sustains ecosystems, nourishes plant and animal life, and shapes landscapes through erosion and deposition. Its presence or absence influences weather patterns, agricultural productivity, and the distribution of species. Moreover, water serves as a vital resource for human activities, supporting agriculture, industry, transportation, and recreation.
Just like water makes an impact, how will you make an impact? Whether aiming to make a difference in your community, profession, or the world at large, having clear goals enables you to channel your efforts effectively, maximize their impact, and create positive change. Through goal setting, you can leverage your strengths, talents, and resources to contribute meaningfully to causes you care about, leaving a lasting legacy and inspiring others to do the same.
- How do you think you will feel once you are out of that situation?
- How will others see you?
- How will you see yourself?
- Does this align with your purpose?
