Coaching Model: Ask

2012/06/05

A Coaching Model Created by Shubha Rajan
(Life Skills Coach, INDIA)

Introduction:

The ASK coaching model consists of just three letters/words but it brings in to effect a whole host of other words that expand the scope of this model ASK. The holy books from the religion says ASK and you will receive – the truth of the statement is brought home now as I learned that the one and only unique skill that a coach needs is to be able to master the art of asking questions. Ask with empathy and offer Apt Solutions to the Knots that people get themselves into.

A coach needs to be able to ASK in various ways and methods so that she/he can receive the entire picture from the client and be able to coach the client on to the path of actionising their goals to success.

The Model:

ASK = Attitude + Skill + Knowledge

Shubha_Rajan_coaching_modelBased on the ASK triangle the Knowledge accounts only for 15% while the Skills and the Attitude together account for 85%. In this too the Attitude is of more criticality than the skill. The underlying theme of the ASK is that knowledge and skills can be acquired while the attitude needs to be there internally or be developed by an aspiring coach.
