Coaching Model: The Gearing for Success

2012/12/06

A Coaching Model Created by Shakti Ghosal
(Leadership and Executive Coach, OMAN)

Shakti_Ghosal_coaching_modelConcept:

The model signifies Intention and Motion. It operates in a finite space of trust and possibility. The finiteness of the space also implies the existence of clear, specific goals. Gears embody solidity of resolve and action.

Model description:

A set of gears exist in a finite space. The gears enmesh with each other and thereby synchronise the movement forward. The gear names and their significance are detailed hereunder.

  • Crystallise: Goals and intentions.

It is here that the client, with the support of the coach, crystallizes his intention and target and brings it in focus.

  • Explore: Current reality, options.

To figure out where we stand. It is here that coaching brings clarity regarding roadblocks and handicaps and what competences the client needs to develop to overcome these. This is also the stage in which the coach assists the client to assess the gap between the Goal and the current situation. Once the client knows where he stands, he explores several options (1, 2 etc.) to figure out what to do.

  • Leverage : Strengths, Beliefs, Values, Energy

This is the BEING zone of Self Awareness. It is here that the coach supports the client to bring into his active consciousness his strengths, beliefs and core values to fully synchronise the energy to a commitment to action. This is also the stage where reframing of the client’s perspective may occur.

  • Encourage: Action, Reflection.

This is the DOING zone and the client is encouraged to make a decisive choice regarding preferred course of action. As the client has an experience, he is encouraged to reflect to consider any course corrections that may be required. The client is further encouraged to create a set of action steps in terms of clarity, completion dates and commitment.

  • Mirror: Movement, Accountability

Coach provides affirmation of the client’s forward movement and celebrates progress. The coach also holds the client accountable especially with regard to the action steps agreed upon earlier.
