From the caterpillar to the butterfly – a beautiful metamorphosis
Human beings usually develop steadily in their lives. However sometimes there are moments when the client feels like he/she can’t get any further.
I compare the coaching process to the caterpillar’s transformation into a butterfly. It first pupates, then undergoes a transformation and finally emerges as a beautiful butterfly that flies. From up there it suddenly has a completely different perspective on the same world.
As a professional coach (certified according to the ICF guidelines) I offer the client a continuous partnership. I give him/her the space and time he/she needs to go through that transformation.
In our fast-paced world, it’s becoming increasingly important to have the opportunity to step back and take the time to think about our own life and the skills we have.
Often, we do carry unconscious beliefs for many years. They prevent us from fully developing our abilities.
I am convinced that everybody has the natural creativity in themselves and that the solutions are already there. Through my active listening and asking specific questions, my clients will have the opportunity to get to know themselves better and to go through life with more lightness, confidence and happiness.
State no. 1 – The caterpillar – Feel
Most of us are brought up in a limited environment – family, village or city, country, religious community, school etc. We grow up with certain believes, values and needs. We live our whole life following these ideas which were given to us by others.
Very often we don’t even question us if we want to live like this. We go to school, to university, work, get married, raise our children. We are happy in this world, we do our best – and all at a sudden we realise that we don’t want this anymore because it doesn’t make sense any more. We feel lonely, worn-out, tired, useless and sad.
State no. 2 – The cocoon – Listen
This is the moment when you need somebody who will listen to you. You are aware that something needs to change, and you are not quite clear what. You feel something is completely wrong, but you don’t know what.
This is the moment when coaching can change your life profoundly. For me the listening is the most powerful skill of the coach. With the listening the coach establishes trust and intimacy, he/her shows presence, the questions come in the right moment almost by themselves. The coach can there with create awareness.
State no. 3 – The butterfly – You
Thanks to this awareness the client comes back to his inner self. He/she will be able to design actions, plan the future and set goals for it.
When the client is ready to he/she can let go and FLY into the sky.
What might be the clients takeaways from being coached?
