Highlights

The conversation covered tips and strategies on 13 topics (see timestamps above) from keeping your daily routine, to listening harder. One of the highlights of the call was discussing “allowing your anxiety”. Merci shared that a small dose of fear and anxiety can be helpful in current circumstances. Emotions are part of our survival mechanism, they motivate us to prepare for things and protect yourselves. We need a bit of discomfort to be motivated. What we have to do is detach from it. Merci shared various strategies for detaching from your anxiety and managing it better.

Another focal point was the fact that “acceptance” can be an action in a coaching session. Merci called attention to the fact that acceptance is not passive and it’s not surrendered. Acceptance is a choice, therefore an action that is empowering and positive. Today, in the current pandemic, acceptance could be the best thing someone is going to come up with within a coaching environment. You just have to allow the coaching to happen. Accepting something often opens the gates to bigger things.

Finally, what’s important is to be gentle with yourself and others. Merci and Robyn emphasized always just take a minute when something happens. Don’t try to control everything. Control what you can, and let go of the rest. We want to control so many things that we sometimes beat ourselves up. Furthermore, what worked for you in the past might not work today in these unprecedented times.

Make sure to listen to the video which is full of great strategies and if you want to discuss in more detail you can do so in the ICA Community Facebook Group. (ICA Coaches only).
