How To Stop Failing, And To Start Succeeding

2014/10/06

Here are two perspectives that can mean a difference between succeeding and failing.

Tweetables

In order to move from trying to committing to your goal, you must get clear on what you want.  [Click to Tweet!]

The path of achievement is not a straight line.  Understand and learn from your setbacks.  [Click to Tweet!]

COMMITMENT plus ACTION equals SUCCESS.  [Click to Tweet!]

(0:58) Statements that are positive today
(1:44) The formula for success

Get Clear On What You Want

The first thing you need to commit to your goal, is to get clear on what it is that you want.  Figure out what are the first steps or some of the actions you need. It’s very hard to get somewhere if you don’t know why you’re doing it or why it’s important to you and you don’t know how to begin. You don’t even know the first few steps.

Understand Setbacks

Secondly, understand that there will be setbacks, there will be obstacles. These are not reasons to give up, they’re all part of the process. The path of achievement is not a straight line, it’s really a sort of a spiral.  It is not a reason to stop the commitment.

State Your Goal

Third, state your goal for your commitment in positive present language. For example, “I graduated from university”, “I have my own business”, “I have the job of my dreams”. When you state it like it’s already happening, there is energy to that, there is a persistence, there is an impact to it that is not there when you say “when I graduate” or “if I graduate”. Put your statement in the ground, so you know where you’re going. The formula for moving from trying to commitment is commitment + action and aligning your goals = success.
