People will constantly tell you, “I want to change jobs” or “I want to eat healthier this year.” However, how often are those same people willing to make this change? My Want vs. Willing Power tool was to determine who was actually willing to put in the effort and make the change before deciding whether or not to hire them. In coaching, the coach will not be the one to provide answers on how to achieve the desired change. The coach’s job is to assist the client in determining not only what they want, but also what they are willing to do to obtain it.

I had the pleasure of interviewing a “Bold Kindness” coach Stephan Thieringer, the founder of the Human Innovation Garage and one of the World Coaching Congress’ top 101 coaching leaders. Today, we talked about what it takes to be a successful coach and the mindset that coaches should adopt to be authentic and valuable to their clients. Stephan’s insights were especially valuable to me because his international work as an executive coach is an area in which I also want to make a difference. On top of that, Stephen is adept at focusing on the people at the heart of any issues his clients pose to the coach.
