The inspiration for this Coaching in Health Care & Disability research came from my decision to transition from my professional career as a caregiver to a coaching career as a Care & Resilience Coach – someone who can give both care users and caregivers a voice. My extensive personal and professional experience in nursing has taught me that living with limited capabilities due to any situation is difficult not only for those who go through it, but also for those around them. Although life with a disability, as well as life around a disability, can be made the most of.

This Overconfidence vs. Optimism power tool is based on the idea of confidence, that is, believing in ourselves and having confidence in our ability to achieve our goals. This belief becoming unbalanced can lead to overconfidence, but can replace optimism in a positive way to restore balance and allow one to move forward instead of backward. Once recognized and investigated, overconfidence vs. optimism both play important roles in coaching practice, while each one naturally does so in a different way. Every instance where overconfidence replaces confidence and affects the effectiveness of the session must be made known by the coach. Coaches must at once recognize the importance of positivity in the coaching process.
