The GIST Coaching Model

GIST Coaching Model Amanda Norwood

A Coaching Model By Amanda Norwood
Change Coach, UNITED STATES

Following the GIST coaching model, I firmly believe that anyone—athlete or not—can achieve goals and find meaningful change. How frequently have your New Year’s resolutions been broken by the middle of February? In many cases, we decide to start a new habit or achieve a goal, but when it comes time to actually do it, we fail to do so. For example, a successful marathon runner’s calendar contains events (goals). But she runs, breathes and eats every day – not just to get ready for these races, but because it’s part of who she is.

“The Slope” Physiological Effects of Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety and Depression Research Paper- Amanda Norwood

A Research Paper By Amanda Norwood
Change Coach, UNITED STATES

Anxiety and depression affect more Americans than ever before. In this research, I will look at the physiological effects of anxiety and depression, as well as different perspectives on emotions and coping mechanisms. The final section will look at when and how coaching can help with healing. My paper on this topic was inspired by an event in my own life. The Arkansas River is followed by a trail near my house. Nine miles of the trail’s length is paved ground that is essentially pancaked flat. In one spot, the trail has a small incline. There are exactly 12 walking steps. The elevation change is, at best, a minor hiccup.

Stillness vs. Running

Stillness vs. Running Power Tool Feature - Amanda Norwood

A Coaching Power Tool By Amanda Norwood
Change Coach, UNITED STATES

Power Tool Stillness vs. Running, This idea was inspired by some advice a running coach once gave me when I was struggling with burnout and frustration with my training. “Sometimes you have to slow down to speed up,” he said. Faster is slower, as stated in Peter Senge’s well-known book “The Fifth Discipline,” which is a similar idea to this one. I have always associated slowing down with giving up, losing ground, and being less productive, much like Mary, the client I previously mentioned, so my coach’s advice really stuck with me. But as Senge explains, moving too quickly can hinder a person’s optimal growth. The hardest thing to do for someone who values high performance is to slow down.
