Research Paper: Indian Working Woman A Case For Life Coaching

1.6.4 Self reflection

Coaches can help women understand themselves better by looking back at their lives, their decisions, accomplishments, struggles and failures. It is important to take stock of what is to better equip for the future.

1.6.5 Design inspiring goals for the future

Coaching can be very uplifting since it demands a person to have a vision. Goal setting exercise can be very powerful for Indian women, especially, in personal matters like relationships with family members, kids. At work, most people tend to set goals for  themselves or their superiors do it for them but personal issues are usually not given as much attention. Life Coaching can bring intention and awareness into that arena.

From personal experience of coaching two Indian working women, I will share a couple of responses to coaching I have received:

Thanks for introducing me to ‘Coaching’. My life was on ‘autopilot’. I was so busy juggling work and home that I was not paying attention to where exactly me and my family were heading to. These sessions forced me to slow down, take a breath, reflect and give direction to my everyday life such that my future looks the way I want it to.

Nidhi Gupta, India

‘Coaching’ has added so much to my relationship with my husband. I was suggested a simple exercise where I was required to intentionally observe the positive attributes of my husband and write them down every night for a week. It just changed my entire perspective towards him, and I loved the way it felt so good!! I knew of the concept before but I did not implement it, my coach not only helped me take action, she held me accountable everyday and I had someone to share and discuss this amazing experience with!

1.7 Awareness about Coaching

As the results of this study indicate, 68% of women do not know about ‘Coaching’ and have never given it a thought that they might seek professional help to enhance their quality of life. There is a definite need of creating more awareness around Coaching. Coaching can be made available to women in several forms and formats

1.7.1 Coaching Individuals

It is likely to be sought by women who already have awareness about life coaching and are motivated to bring about an improvement in the quality of life

1.7.2 Coaching in Support Groups

Women who are facing similar challenges can create support groups and take advantage of Coaching. Groups can help to maintain focus while the members gain valuable insights and emotional support from others that have similar experiences.

Groups are a cost-effective way to try Life Coaching

1.7.3 Coaching in Organizations

This can really go a long way in establishing Coaching as an option to support women professionals.

1.7.4 Coaching in families

This is an interesting idea. In my opinion, if spouses can be coached together to establish a vision for their relationship, families and work together to attain it, it will deepen the understanding and cooperation between husband and wife and consequently, reduce their stress.
