Power Tool: Self-Awareness vs. Self Deception

2012/06/02

In reality, the problem is with her, though she’s not seeing it that way. Since she can’t see how she’s the problem, nothing that she can think of for resolution, will be a solution.

Self-deception is a wrongful notion of self which is of one’s doing but not of one’s knowing. It’s often an exaggerated understanding of oneself be it for good or bad. It is a kind of a ‘put on‘, where the individual is unable to discern what is his true self and what his false self is. Self deception thus blinds us to the reality including the real cause of problem & once blind, all solutions we can think of can make matters worse.

Awareness about self-deception is liberating. It sharpens vision, reduces feelings of conflict, enlivens desire for team work, redoubles accountability, magnifies capacity to achieve results, and deepens satisfaction & happiness.
