Accept responsibility for your life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go, no one else. Les Brown

We all go through those moments when we feel down, have no hope in ourselves or in life. This feeling affects almost every aspect in our life. We spend days wishing things would change. Still, we miss those moments when we were in good mood and having high spirit.

In my opinion, Positive Thinking is an attitude that comes by practice. Actually, it is one of the most important things that we need to urge ourselves to practice.

In order to accomplish something, we need to take action and move forward. This can only be achieved when we have a positive eye to see the world around us. This power tool attempts to guide clients to practice Positive Thinking through believing in them self. Highlighting the clients’ skills and stressing on their potentials and abilities will no doubt help them to practice Positive Thinking.

In fact, we can hardly stay 100% positive all the time. My idea is when the clients feel the power of being positive and its impact throughout their life, at this point they will get over any negative feeling and will hate that feeling of weakness. The idea is to have the power to overcome the bad thoughts and stay stable all the time.

Negative Thinking:

instructive thoughts are unwelcome, involuntary thoughts, images or unpleasant ideas that may become obsessions, are upsetting or distressing, and can be difficult to be free of and manage.

Negativity penetrates you physically and mentally. It affects your self-talk, point of view, relationship. Moreover, when you think negatively, you will face a change in mood and behavior; like anger, depression, loss of appetite and body pain. Accordingly, limits and boarders will be formed between you and people you use to deal with.

Negative thinking drain you from power and prison you in a limited world where you see everything from a pessimistic perspective.

Positive Thinking:

is a mental attitude that admits into the mind thoughts, words and images that are conductive to growth, expansion and success. It is a mental attitude that expects good and favorable results. It is a strategy that can be used to make you feel good about yourself.

Positivity gives you power, improve health, maintain good relationships; like intimacy, friendship. People will like the way you see them. The moment you will magnify a positive action, next day you will achieve an unexpected result.

Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful. Joshua J. Marine

Having a positive attitude means to create your own happy life, to be proactive and not to stand still waiting for something good to happen to you. Give it a try and remember, to gain this attitude IT WILL TAKE TIME.

Case study:

Zeinab was a housewife and a mother of two girls. She was so dissatisfied with her life. She looked at herself as a failure who can do nothing at all. Her relationship with her daughters was terrible; they were not convinced with her as a mother. This leads her to a complete loneliness; she hated any kind of gatherings and didn’t want to see anyone.

I worked with the client on changing herself image. By asking her about her positives, she said

I have no positives at all.

Gradually and after encouraging her to speak up, I received one positive comment about herself. I acknowledged her and give her the space to think. I asked her for five positive points about herself, she gave me eleven. After one week, herself talk began to change and she was able to put an objective; she decided to study Art. The positive vibes began to change her perspective, she believed she can do something, she said

nothing stops me from my goal, I will take an action tomorrow.

Zeinab’s point of view concerning her daughters started to change. When she put herself in a higher position as a mother and looked at herself positively, she discovered that they love her so much and it was only a negative way of thinking.

Negativity limits our way of thinking and leads to false conclusions. By giving ourselves the chance to see the whole picture objectively, life changes around us.

To stop thinking Negatively you need the following:

  • Be specific concerning the negative.
  • Life is not black or white accept the in between and be flexible.
  • Focus on the positive even it is a small thing.
  • Change yourself talk.
  • Remember there are things out of your hand.
  • Take it easy.

Reflection:

  1. What is your purpose of life?
  2. What’s your great accomplishment in life?
  3. What limits you from accomplishing what you want?
  4. If there are no longer these limitations what would life look like?
