A Coaching Power Tool Created by Abigail Wallin
(Life Coach, UNITED STATES)

What does it mean to live?

:  to have a life rich in experience

What does it mean to exist then?

:  to continue to be

Everyday each one of us gets up and consciously or subconsciously, thinks about their day ahead. These thoughts can be very powerful over the choice of existing for another day OR stepping out of routine and comfort to take the next step in really living. Some of the questions we may contemplate are

  • Is there enough time?
  • Is there enough resources?
  • Do I have a choice/say?
  • Am I worthy/strong/smart enough?

It is so easy to get caught up in the “logic” of the “easy” life. Existing day-by-day to pay bills, feed the family and live up to the status quo by putting on a happy face when the take risks, think outside the box, entrepreneurial  YOU is on the inside just waiting to make an appearance.

It is when we realize and actually believe that

  • There IS enough time
  • There IS enough resources
  • You DO have a choice
  • You ARE worthy and strong and smart enough

that living life really starts!

Self Application

Consider for a minute or two that you can do anything your heart desires. Own your own business, travel the world, meet the love of your life, be a teacher, or fly a plane. Note the physical and emotional changes that are taking place in your mind and your body. That is a glimpse of what living feels like. For some of you, it might be only positive feelings, for others it could be mixed. Excitement, love, freedom, fear, joy, anxiousness are all feelings that come to mind. Please write down which ones you encountered and add to the list as they appear for you.

Coaching Application

Awareness

As a coach, we need to be very careful in bringing awareness into our client’s lives. Making the shift to start living life can be on a very small scale to a very LARGE scale. As coaches, we need to keep our clients grounded as they go through this process.

Feelings can be addicting and very powerful for one to start feeling after being in an emotionally empty state of existing.

Structure

We can help bring structure into our client’s goals by talking about time-frame, logistics of their situation (current and future), obstacles they may encounter and steps to move forward.

According to Oscar Wilde

To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.
