A Coaching Model Created by Vidhyarthi S

Transformation occurs through a series of iterative steps. The wheel of life is a familiar concept. It is one that encapsulates all the possible influencing realms of an individual’s life, be it Career, Family, Love, Relationships, Wealth or Health. Hence transformation though initiates in one area of an individual’s life eventually has an interactive effect on other areas of his life too.
The model outlined below is designed with an intention of creating transformation for the coachee through a ‘window’ into his ‘self’. Every coachee is believed to hold immense potential. The truest test of the coaching model lies in its ability to tap this potential in as many ways such that the results of this transformation are visible in numerous manifestations of the individual’s life.
A window of entry into a coachee’s self is one that resonates most with the individual’s current state of mind. For example if the individual in his current set of thought processes has been thinking a lot about his promotion in his job- the intensity of thinking around this area of his life along with the underlying commitment towards getting the promotion are all factors that determine this aspect of his life to be a window for driving transformation. There is a considerable amount of effort required to tap the most authentic and resonating ‘window’ for the coachee. Depending on the coachee’s levels of awareness there may be a number of sessions required to identify that window through which transformation can be driven. The concept of Resonance in Physics can be applied to this situation to understand this better.
When an object is resonating at its natural frequency, any level of force that is applied to this resonating body results in the highest amplitude. Translating this to the coaching conversation: when an individual is resonating with his natural and currently acceptable tendencies (need for promotion), any external force or idea has the ability to amplify the sound produced- meaning amplify the internal transformation process for the coachee. Keeping this view in mind the coaching model -Transformation through Realization (TtR) has been designed with the following 5 key processes.
An individual as discussed above has numerous dimensions in his life that are influencing his nature and style of operating. When looking at transforming individuals through perspective shifts and behavior changes, there is a need to mine through all the possible goals for the coachee. By asking open questions, various goals/dimensions the coachee wants to consider for achievement during the coaching engagement can be drawn. This is also a list down of all the current priorities for the coachee.
Care should also be taken during this stage of prioritization because it is also true that what is identified during reflective stages as a priority is not necessarily that which could motivate the coachee during the actual ‘points of action’. There are other factors in play such as deep seated values, likes/dislikes, and desires, intensity of thought processes around the goal, social recognition and so forth which would motivate the coachee greatly in a moment of action.
