A Coaching Model Created by Sorina Liana Popa
(Executive Coach, ROMANIA)
The way in which I see my working experience with people – more than 20 years already – it’s like a partnership in which we are all bringing to the table, what’s best in us, as persons and as professionals, in order to go farther together, in a smooth, efficient, interesting and funny way.
I’m seeing the coaching relationship functioning on the same principles, each having its role and playing it openly.
This is why I’m giving serious consideration to the need of establishing expectations at the beginning of the “trip”, like being a crucial one, for the success of the coaching relationship. I’m referring at aspects like: how the partnership works, the “judgment free” type of space, full confidentiality, the way of communicating within the session and between the sessions, what are some of the methods to use in the process, when we call it “done”/”achieved” etc.
To create the environment for you to follow your agenda, to achieve what is important for you, to make the progress and/or to make the change that you wish, by getting to know yourself better during our working endeavor, to identify new resources that are at your disposal, so you will be able, when the next occasion comes, to start already the process/trip on your own.
OBSERVATION – becoming aware, acknowledging, accepting
INTERGRATION – making connections & decide on the relevance
NEXT ACTION STEPS – Planning, milestones, points of checking
TOP OFF…(THE DESTINATION)
Pick/Destination (Powerful questions, Active Listening, Goal setting*)
Nothing happens unless first we dream Carl Sandburg
We will establish what you want to achieve at the end of our “trip”. It can be a place to get to, a transformation that you want to make to yourself or around you, a direction that you would like to take or just something that you feel that needs improvement/to work on. Basically, “Where you want to be/get to? What you would like to achieve/to become and how will you know that you did it/arrived there? What is it that you are looking for?
Observation – becoming aware, acknowledging, accepting (Creating awareness, acknowledgement, mirroring)
Desire is the starting point of all achievement, not a hope, not a wish, but a keen pulsating desire which transcends everything. Napoleon Hill
We would be looking at where you currently are. How do you feel being in this point? In fact, it is your starting point. You would be looking at yourself as well as around you, within the environment in which you are in, at the situations that you are confronted with etc. We will identify those aspects that you are happy with, as well as those that you would like to change or improve. You will discover new things about yourself and decide which ones are supporting you in going farther and which ones are holding you back. You would get to better know yourself, better understand your motivations, as well as your reactions and at the same time, you will become more aware of the impact that you create.
Integration – making connections & decide on the relevance (Reframing perspectives*)
Success isn’t something that you do on the outside, success is something that you are on the inside. The rest will follow. Chuck Danes
We will gather different perspectives, and by connecting all these new experiences and aligning them towards the final destination, you will be identifying what you already have from what you need to go farther, as well as finding out what it’s still needed and how you can work on seeing it happened. With all this new information/discoveries you will realize how important the destination is for you and how much effort you are willing to put into it. This is a key point for your success!
Next Action Steps – Planning, milestones, points of checking (Goal Planning, Accountability and Managing Progress *)
Even a mistake may turn out to be the one thing necessary to a worthwhile achievement. Henry Ford
This is the point in which we will be dealing with your true priorities. We will be approaching your goals/destination in an efficient way, which would allow you to come up with the plan that would take you there. Setting up structure to support the actions you need to take, is one of the important steps in the process of achieving your DESTINATION /goals.
And if there are situations in which the straight line between where we are and where we want to go, represents the shortest, easiest route to get there, there are times when we might get off track. This is why, during our sessions we’ll stop in different points (milestones) and you’ll be asked if you are still on the right track, if you are still heading towards that DESTINATION, if that DESTINATION is still where you want to get to?
Top Off…/The Destination (Continue to build trust and energy for what’s to be next*)
The most splendid achievement of all is the constant striving to surpass yourself and to be worthy of your own approval. Denis Waitley

look back to the trip that you just finished, deciding what valuable learning to take with you for your next one, and celebrate, in your own way, the success of getting what you dreamed at, what you planned for, what you drived towards.
If this POINTwill prove to BE only a new BEGINNING, that it’s something that only YOU will be figuring out/know/decide.
Ideas are a dime a dozen. People who implement them are priceless. Mary Kay Ash
