Coaching Model: I-Self

2013/12/20

Coaching Model created by Sid Andruska
(Transformational Life Coaching, United States)

A coaching model that conjures your inner Superhero!

The I-SELF Coaching Model is Ideal for getting “unstuck” and identifying: what you want, the steps you need to take and then prioritizing them based on what is most important and authentic to you at the moment. In doing so, you experience the surge of momentum needed to take a leap of faith and finally ACT! Also, you gain the peace of knowing you are finally moving toward abundance! Then, fiesta! Acknowledging and celebrating our successes, which give us incentive to ACT! And increases our self-awareness, connecting us with our authentic needs.

sid-andruska-coaching-modelPreface

The I-SELF Coaching Model compliments my power tool: Superhero vs. Saboteur, a coaching tool used to determine a clients values and strengths and builds upon them to develop an inner champion (superhero) archetype for acknowledging their authentic voice. Thus, empowering the client with their very own inner Superhero. They’ll need it, because inside all of us lives the evil, omnipresent, inner Saboteur, the Superhero’s nemesis, which exists only to criticize our efforts, maintain toxic beliefs and keep our soul from finding peace. This culprit that sneaks into our waking thoughts, breeding fear and distrust — is no match for our inner superhero, who can instantly shield and empower the client against the her nemesis.

Preface con’t

One of the most important aspects when launching the I-SELF model is establishing confidentiality and creating a safe space for sharing and reflection with the client. Each coach has their own style of creating trust, and they will modify it according to a client’s personality type. Along with confidentiality, establishing trust is crucial. Some clients may error on the side of caution and withhold critical information about themselves for fear of judgment by the coach and last of established trust. If you feel a client may not feel safe yet, continue with the I-SELF model, but suggest identifying smaller, short-term goals. In other words, baby steps!

Additionally, to help facilitate a productive and focused coaching session, have the client begin I-SELF by setting their intention, which invites a greater sense of self-awareness.

Ask them:

  • What would you like to take away from today's call?
  • What is on your mind today? What would you like to do about it?
  • Meditate on what you really want out of our coaching session today.

I-Self Coaching Principles

coachingmodel-identityMake sure the client has pen and paper handy. Ask them to meditate on and identify a list of goals that have not been accomplished yet. Write down those goals, which should feel authentic to the client and resonate both emotionally and spiritually with them — and that, if achieved, will transform the client into their very own Superhero.

coachingmodel-superpowerSet aside the Goal List and ask the client to make a second one — this time meditate on their Strengths (or as I call them, Superpowers)! Empower the client by asking them to recall past triumphs — what superpowers were present when they achieved it? The Superpower List will act like a shield to protect the Superhero from the Saboteur, our inner critic.

coachingmodel-evaluateBring back the Goal List and ask the client to evaluate and rank each goal, #1 being the most important through #3 being least. (You may include more than three goals, but for the sake of time, it helps to narrow the client’s choices.) After ranking, ask the client to re-rank them again. This time, rank them based on the healing energy each goal contains, if achieved. (ie: If you were to achieve this goal, what part of yourself would be healed?)

coachingmodel-leapAsk the client to visualize and feel how different life will be after taking the leap! And achieve healing thru that goal. The coach might say: Visualize your inner Superhero, fully healed, with so many superpowers (strengths). What will your Superhero Life feel like as you leap toward abundance, fully shielded by your strengths? How will this change you?

Next, ask the client How are you feeling? Based on your initial intention for the call, do you feel like you’re on the right path (feeling more empowered and energized to act). Then action! Ask the client for to leap! Ask what actions/steps they will commit to until your next meeting.

Note: For some clients, working on identifying goals and strengths could take up most of the session. Be aware that some may not be able to complete the I-SELF Coaching Model in one sitting. And that’s okay! Assign homework focused on one of the five I-SELF Coaching Principles.

coachingmodel-fiestaOne of the cornerstones of any effective and memorable coaching model is self-acknowledgement: Celebrating our triumphs in Superhero fashion! After the client commits to action, ask about how they will celebrate their success? Will they acknowledge both the small and big steps? How will you acknowledge your Superhero?

A good question to ask now would be: After achieving this healing goal, what new Superpowers can you add to your Strengths List? Thus, empowering the inner-superhero with self-confidence needed to tackle Goals #2 and #3 from the Goal List at beginning of the session.
