Coaching Model: Progress

2014/08/05

A Coaching Model Created by Sarah Hurst
(Health and Wellness Coaching, UNITED STATES)

My style of coaching is to work with you to create long lasting change by focusing on PROGRESS.  I have designed a process to encourage growth and to support personal progress and transformation rather than achieving a goal purely as a means to an end or a quick fix.  I will theme your coaching sessions in a way to encourage you to explore every aspect of the journey to achieving your goal and I will support you as you progress to each stage.

The stages are:

  • Identify and clarify your GOAL by exploring the reasons why you have chosen coaching and what you hope to achieve from working with me.
  • Explore the MOTIVATION behind your goal to ensure it is a relevant and appropriate goal for you.
  • Discuss your previous EXPERIENCE and any attempts to achieve this goal in the past.
  • Identify and agree on ACTIONs you would like to take towards this goal.
  • Discuss any OBSTACLES that you perceive to be in your way.
  • Identify STRUCTURES you could put in place to support you to overcome any obstacles and complete the action steps.
  • REFLECT upon and celebrate your growth, personal transformation, insights and success.

You will see from the visual representation on the next page that once the goal has been identified, the Motivation, Experience, Action, Obstacles and Structures stages can be repeated and revised as many times as necessary until you achieve your goal. Strategies can be re-visited until we find what works best for you. Reflection forms a central part of the model and can be explored at any point during the coaching process.

Sarah_Hurst_coaching_modelTo understand how I will work with you in a little more detail, an explanation of each step follows to clarify what the focus is for each step and how, as a client, you will be supported through the process.

  • GOAL

What do you want to achieve?

Brainstorming ideas.

Identify a clear goal(s).

  • MOTIVATION

Why do you want to achieve this?

How important is this to you?

How will your life be different when you achieve this goal?

What does this look like (visualization)?

How would you feel in 5/10 years if you’d done nothing about this?

Explore your values & beliefs – is the goal in line with these?

  • EXPERIENCE

What have you done so far towards achieving this goal?

What has worked?

What hasn’t worked?

What haven’t you tried?

Are there any limiting beliefs at play here?

  • ACTION

What would you like to try?

What is realistic right now?

Agree on action steps and timeframe.

  • OBSTACLES

What has happened since the last coaching session?

What has worked?

What hasn’t worked?

How could you have handled things differently?

  • CREATING STRUCTURES

What could you do differently this time?

How can you ensure this happens?

What needs to change?

On a scale of 1 to 10 how likely are you to do this?

  • REFLECTION

What have you achieved? Celebrate!

How is your life different now?

How have you changed as a person?

Has this affected other areas of your life in a positive way?

What next?
