Coaching Model: ARROW

2014/11/05

A Coaching Model Created by Neil Goodall
(Transformational Coach, AUSTRALIA)

As we journey through life human beings naturally set goals for themselves to fulfill their dreams and desires.

Many of our aspirations in life remain unfulfilled and most of the time we may not know the reason why. My goal as a coach is to explore the areas of my clients’ lives to help them understand what has been holding them back from reaching their goals.

Neil_Goodall-coaching_model  The Bow A simple, yet profound piece of equipment. There is a tension in the string and timber of a bow which when stretched propels an arrow toward its target.
Neil_Goodall-coaching_model Arrow Held Snugly Against the String I regard this analogy as an example of the coaching process, where the client is positioned in a safe place to be challenged (tension applied) in order to discover what needs to be adjusted in their thinking, in order to reach their goals. The aim and trajectory are aligned as the client’s thought process is reframed or calibrated. Depending on how much needs to take place, more tension may need to be applied on the string.By taking into account all of the conditions in and around the client’s life, just as the conditions of the wind affect the aim of the arrow, also the conditions of the client’s life need to be compensated for.
Neil_Goodall-coaching_model Arrow Released The arrow is released, or action steps are taken, and each single arrow travels its route to the target, yet as we know it takes many arrows to refine the ability to hit the bulls eye.So it is with our goals. We may use different tools to refine the client’s way of reaching their goals, helping them to recognize different action steps.
Neil_Goodall-coaching_model Hitting The Target The pleasure derived by the client when they see their goals and desires starting to materialize spurs the client on.
Neil_Goodall-coaching_model Bulls Eye! They not only hit their targets more often, their aim is so honed they are able to hit the bulls eye, i.e. reach their goals, consistently.
