Coaching Model: Wheel Coach Model Based on Stages and Ages Concept

2016/06/13

A Coaching Model Created by Nancy Frehill
(Life Transition Coach, UNITED STATES)

Life is all about stages and ages. We take on new roles throughout our life. Our reaction to these changing roles can be anything from excitement to dread. There is much to consider when a new development arises. Some are long awaited with anticipation – a pregnancy. A pregnancy changes you from an autonomous person to a parent. Other situations are, perhaps not welcomed, but happen anyway like a divorce. A divorce shifts you to a new place with new responsibilities and possibilities.  Welcomed or not, each of us is affected to varying degrees as these situations unfold. Life is always in motion. The past cannot be changed but learned from. The present is the moment where we can make decisions that shape the future.

In coaching the focus is on the present –what is working for you and what is not working. Coaching can help a person develop new awareness’, shift perspectives and alter behaviors so that the future is everything that we envision it to be.

My coaching model is based on the ‘stages and ages’ that we all experience throughout our lives. The ability to transition to the new roles is necessary to live a healthy, fulfilling, purposeful life.  Fears of the unknown and concerns about change can cause frustration and stagnation. A coach partners with you to develop a positive mindset to change. A coach supports you by asking wide open questions to dig deep into your perspectives and beliefs to determine if they serve you and will challenge you to explore underlying beliefs. A goal is to have your life purpose be alignment with your values and belief system.

Wheel Model

The WHEEL model demonstrates my coaching method. I use the wheel because it represents movement. It reflects the movement we experience in our daily lives. Life experiences change you. You are not the same person you were 10 years ago or 10 days ago because of your life experiences.

E  EDUCATION PROVIDES INTROSPECTION AND GROWTH
E  ENERGIZE TO CREATE AN ACTION PLAN
L  LAUNCH!  LIVE YOUR LIFE WITH NEW AWARENESS’ &  DIRECTION

Who Am I Now

The first component of the model is all about who you are at present. I start by asking questions about your values and underlying belief system. It is important to identify what areas of life you may feel stuck or frustrated by. We examine what qualities, strengths and desires you possess.

How Do I want To Be In The Future?

The second component of the model is about your future self, your goals and the steps to achieve your vision.  What does your best future self look like?

Educate

As coach I will challenge you to examine deeply your ideas of who you want to be and why it is important to you for change to occur. Self-development is learned through a journey of self-awareness and discovery as well as identifying what values still serve and those that do not.  You will decide what you want more of and what you want less of in your life.

Energize

This is the step where the education and self-awareness combine to action. At this stage the client is supported in strategizing how to achieve his/her goals and aspirations. You will be energized to figure out support structures, put into place milestones to check progress, and ways to hold yourself accountable to your goals.

Launch!

It is time to launch and live the life you want armed with a strategy plan and the desire to move forward with confidence towards your desired life goals.

This coaching model can be used repeatedly as you progress through life. There might be a need to take stock as another new life change/stage comes onto your life horizon. Fortified with new skills of self-awareness, the new stage can be met with enthusiasm and anticipation. The model begins with self-reflection, mindsets are challenged, creating solutions to bothersome issues begin and an energy shift to lightness and movement is created. The model creates momentum, movement and action. Your life journey will be purposeful and what you desire because of the coaching tools you have learned.
