Coaching Model: D.I.G

A Coaching Model Created by Maria Martins
(Life Coach, COSTA RICA)

This is your life!

The deeper you dig … the more you grow

Life Coaching Model Maria Martins

I am on the hunt for who I’ve not yet become. Unknown

Become who you really are!

D.I.G. (Discover, Identify, Grow) is a model to guide a life coaching conversation which allows for a profound exploration of what’s going on in the client’s situation before identifying options and generating solutions.

The model is based on self-exploration to raise awareness, that will lead to self-discovering where the client is right now and where he/she wants to be, in order to identify the way to reach the“ideal you”. The D.I.G. coaching process is comprised of three interrelated steps:

DISCOVER:

the client becomes an explorer of his/her own life, much as the captain of a ship is in command of its destination.

The client will explore his/her situation, through a process of self-discovering to uncover the client’s values, beliefs, fears, motivation, strengths and weaknesses. This step will help to bring about self-awareness.

Through a process of questioning, the client will be more aware and it will allow him/her to take control of their own life.

IDENTIFY:

Unveil the opportunities and embrace changes.

In this step, the client will be able to identify goals. He/she will identify the opportunities that he/she has available, and the obstacles that prevent him/her from achieving the desired goal. With the newly acquired or reformulated self-knowledge, the client will be seeking for options and creating solutions to reach his/her goal, through the reframing of perspectives and re-defining disempowering beliefs and values; by creating structures that lead to healthy routines; managing thoughts and emotions; and being more present at the moment.

You cannot change the circumstances, but you can change your attitude.

GROW:

I live the life I love and I love the life I live. Muddy Waters

Grow by the transformation. This step will help the client feel encouraged to commit himself to implement the actions and solutions that will help him to reach his goals. By checking progress towards the actions, the client will know what is working and what needs to be changed. The client will grow by willing to try new solutions and be flexible to adapt actions in order to find out what serves him/her the best. Once the client finds the solutions that will enable him/her to reach the “ideal self”, he/she will be motivated to become accountable by keeping focused on the achievement of the desired goals. The client will grow through the power of having control of his/her own life and therefore will know what he/she needs to do to reach his/her full potential.

Enjoy and celebrate your life. Be grateful and always remind yourself how unique you are.

This is your life, this is your story, this is you at your very best.
