Coaching Model: OWN IT!

2018/01/02

A Coaching Model Created by Lucy Romao Vandepol
(Wellness Coach, CANADA)

This coaching model is based on the principles of coaching and the belief that the client has what it takes. This client centred model places the ownership of the journey on the client. The coach is here to support the client through the process. The client is not only the driver of their journey, they OWN IT!

This coaching model starts from a place of OPENness, is driven by a WHY, a focus on the NOW and on empowering the client to OWN IT and take the first step TODAY.

In order to move towards action the client must be

O – OPEN

They must also be aware of their

W – WHY

Be focused on the

N – NOW

Believe that

I – I have it

and be willing to take the first step

T – TODAY!

As a coach, our role is to help the client feel comfortable and safe by providing them with a non-judgemental and confidential listening ear. In doing this, we are providing a positive space where our clients can OPEN themselves up. As a client, we need to be OPEN to the possibilities.Being in a state of relaxation enables us to OPEN ourselves up to our full potential. We need to be OPEN, to OWN IT!

As a coach, our role is to work with our clients to help them explore their WHY. We do this by listening and asking questions. As a client, we need to work on identifying our WHY. The WHY refers to a goal or purpose, it provides a light at the end of the tunnel. Knowledge of our WHY provides a foundation for the journey, and a base for actions. It also serves as a motivational driver and contributes to the client’s ability to preserver during challenging times resulting in an increase in resiliency.Knowing your why helps put things into perspective and help identify what you need to do TODAY. Once the client identifies their WHY, the coach can support the client in identifying possible obstacles and plans for overcoming them. Having an identified WHY helps fuel the inner fire and motivation. Clients are encouraged to reflect on their WHY often, especially during difficult times and times of self-doubt. Once you have set a WHY, it is time to OWN IT!

As a coach, we work with our clients to help them better understand where they are NOW in relation to their WHY. As a client,it is not only important to be living in the NOW, it is also important to have a realistic understanding of where they are NOW. This helps them to better understand what actions they need to take to get them closer to their WHY, it also helps them better understand themselves. NOW, is the time to OWN IT!

As a coach, we work with clients on self-awareness. This may involve the use of a variety of tools and resources. It is important to acknowledge the results of these tools with the client and allow them the time to reflect on their results. As a coach, we can work with clients to develop positive affirmation statements. As a coach, we are here to empower our clients and to remind them that they have what it takes within. The I is all about our client, it is about focusing on them and working with them on I statements. As a client, the I is about recognizing everything that they need is inside of them, and acknowledging that “I have what it takes” and that I OWN IT! The client has the power inside of them because they OWN IT!

This model wraps up in the present with a discussion with the client around what will they do TODAY to move them closer to their WHY. As a client,it is about finishing this statement:

TODAY, I will _____________ to move me closer to my WHY. I OWN IT!

The various components of this model are interconnected and often blend into one another.
