E – Explore – Explore Goals
Goal setting leads to the motivation to work at achieving them.
The Time Is Now
If there was ever a time to dare, to make a difference, to embark on something worth doing, IT IS NOW. You are doing the right thing!
Not for any grand cause, necessarily… but for something that tugs at your heart, something that’s your inspiration, something that’s your dream…
Exploration of goals leads to finding and selecting those that you really need for each journey…
Goals that will help you find your talents and bring you happiness – finding the “YOU”… you want to be.
The act of exploring increases your knowledge about who you are, helps you to identify what it is you really want, the purpose, and the benefits. Exploring helps to provide answers to questions such as: ‘why’ do I need this goal and how will it help me to become who I want to be?
N-New – New Possibilities; ‘think outside the box’ Self Awareness 1
To effect change, and to get the results that you want, you need to change your thought process and the type of selections that you make. Let’s do something different!!!
Set new goals… that will help you find your talents and bring you happiness in finding the “YOU”… you want to be. ‘Think outside the box’.
D – Develop: Smarter Objectives
It is now time to develop the objectives that you feel will assist you to become the YOU …you want to be. Objectives should be:
- Extending, and
Objectives are basic tools that underlie all planning activities. In addition to the S-M-A-R-T criteria, objectives should also be Extending (Challenging) to stimulate learning, and Rewarding to build strength of character.
O – Order: Place in order of PRIORITY
Priority determines what needs to be done, within a select timeframe, while allowing time for implementation, evaluation, and for self.
Achieving congruence between your values and your goals, … results in feeling strong, happy, healthy, and fully integrated as a person. You develop courage to make your decisions and take action.

O – Opportunities: Create opportunities and Implement Action Plan
When there appears to be no opportunity, that in itself is a great opportunity… to create one of your own. Create your own opportunity; don’t wait for it to come to you.
When you love people, you must love what is good and accept what is still under construction.
The same holds true for self. Love what you are satisfied with, accept what is still under construction, and be ready to create opportunities to continue building.
Opportunity is all around us but sometimes we never see it. Coaching provides an opportunity in every conversation/discussion in which you participate; in each step of your Action Plan as you move closer to “the YOU…that you want to be.
R – Review: Review Results
Review helps to determine the changes that have occurred during the coaching process, and the adjustments that need to be made to goals and/or timelines via the Action Plan.
What are some questions that may be asked?
- What has changed?
- What is the impact of the change?
- What are the current needs?
- What change/adjustment is required?
- What next?
S – Self- Awareness 2 and Solutions in the making
This 2nd stage of self-awareness suggests that: the coachee is working on solutions, is acquiring inner strength by moving away from negative underlying beliefs, and learning additional skills to handle challenges as they arise. As self awareness increases, the coachee becomes more empowered to continue the journey of change. At this point the coachee may a) identify the need for a support system, b) accept support from friends and/or family, and c) become satisfied with self and progress, recognize the value of coaching, and encourage family and friends to utilize coaching services when necessary.
