Coaching Model: L.I.V.E.

2012/07/01

Coaching Model Created by Courtney Anderson
(Career Coach, UNITED STATES)

L.I.V.E. is the coaching model that supports upward trajectory as a way of life. To L.I.V.E. is to Listen, Illuminate, Vibrate and Elevate. As illustrated by the graphic below, the elements of L.I.V.E. are interconnected.

The first step in coaching is to listen to your client. This powerful action not only allows the coach to hear what the client is expressing in words and sounds, but also requires the coach to listen to what is not being said.

As the coach is present in the sessions, the coach will be in the position to hear the client express his or her goals and strengths. This may be in the form of explicit words, or through repeated stories or themes. The coach must listen carefully in order to draw parallels between the client’s statements. It is

important to be mindful of topics that the client is avoiding in order to flush out what fears or doubts the clients may have.

It is only through active listening that the coach gains the ability to ask powerful questions to encourage the client to express his or her inner truth, and to accurately and usefully reflect back to the client.

Illuminate

To Illuminate is to shine light upon. The client possesses the solution, but it is often buried within insecurities. Listening to the client gives the coach the ability to act as a mirror to reflect light on to the truth that lies within the client.

The coach will enable the client to connect the spoken words to values to create goals that encompass the whole of the client. Through this process, limitations are reduced and the client is in a position to take ownership and responsibility for her life and the pathway that will elevate her to her full potential.

Vibrate

Vibrations describe the frequency that individuals sent out into the universe to attract their ideal lifestyles. In the L.I.V.E model of coaching, to vibrate is to create an embrace an action plan that allows the client to move forward with a positive state of mind that the lifestyle they want will be attained.

The coach must partner with the client to create a plan of action tailored to the client’s strengths that is in harmony with the client’s goals and values. The action plan must encourage the client to be proactive in order to create a deep commitment to the process. The action plan is crucial in uniting the client’s beliefs, thoughts, strengths and goals and it is a product of the client’s communication around all of these aspects of his or her life. This communication will include celebrations of accomplishments and analysis and implementation of alternative routes if the original plan of action does not offer the needed support.

Elevate

There is no end to this model, because there is no end to elevation. The ultimate goal of the L.I.V.E. coaching model is to lift up the client so that the client may broaden his or her perspective on what must be done in order to achieve present and future goals. Self-reflection and self-acknowledgement are key components of this process. A coach and client have successfully partnered using the L.I.V.E. model once the client is able to speak and live their truth in a way that results in progression and accomplishment of goals. This is elevation, and once a client has the ability to do this, he or she will be able to reinforce the L.I.V.E. model in their lives by incorporating these elements in their service to others.
