Coaching Models: The Pyramid

2012/06/01

A Coaching Model Created by Ayca Ulku
(Career Coach, TURKEY)

Ayca_Ulku_coaching_modelThe Pyramid Model helps the client to reach their goals with the awareness they gained during the coaching process. In the Pyramid Model, there two pyramid models coloured with chakra colours. There are two main theories/philosophies  that the model is inspired from. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory and Yoga Philosophy. All the values and the steps took place in the two pyramids are related with the chakra principles, also reflecting the values of the coach. As an example, the basic need of an individual is “safety”. The first step in Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory is “safety and physical needs”. The first chakra in Yoga is “Muladhara Chakra” or “ Basic Chakra” and it is related with “safety” also.

The pyramid is built on the great potential of every individual.  Every individual has a great potential in being, some couldn’t find the chance to bring out that wonderful energy to live a satisfacted life. Coaching is a process that helps individuals to maximize their potentials and learning gained by every step carry them to the top of the pyramid of their lives/goals. Coming to the top, achieving every goal brings happiness, gratitude and freedom like the theories/philosophies inspired from.

The red base of the pyramid is the fundamental of the process, where the coaching relationship is built on Trust, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Understanding.

The orange second step is the Identification part. In the Identification part; the client’s dreams, values, strengths, beliefs and support systems are defined. This step of the model takes more time than the beginning, because deeper thinking about themselves’ begins on their journey to the top. This part is a great learning opportunity for the client about themselves. Appreciation, creativity, acknowledgement and feedbacks are the most valuable tools of this process. All are for the use of the coach and for the client.

The yellow third step of the model is the Goal Setting part. In this part of the process the client set their S.M.A.R.T (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely)  Goals. The goals are built on the dreams, values, beliefs and strengths of the client, those learned in the second step of the model.

The green fourth step is the Action Plan. The client builds their action plan and strategies step by step to reach their goal, by the encouragement and support of the coach.

The light blue fifth step is the expression and taking action part of the process. In this part the client takes actions and gets the results of their actions. If there comes out any roadblocks in taking action or any discontent about the results, this is the part where the client needs some perspective or behavior changes.

In the sixth blue step, the coach and the client makes an evaluation of the process with the awareness built during the whole coaching process. In this step looking inside more deeper becomes real also.

The top purple part is the Celebration step. The client reaches their goal and makes a celebration for their success story.

For every client and every goal the process begins from the basement part again.

Every human has four endowments- self awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom… The power to choose, to respond, to change. Stephen Covey
