2016/02/09

A Coaching Model Created by Amjad Ali
(Executive Coach, PAKISTAN)

Introduction:

Coaching is all about gaining awareness, clarity and follows through action plans. The more you are clear about what someone wants to achieve the easy would be, to attain it. This model SHOW exactly helps to see the goal visible / imagine, see the difficulties in reaching there, possible options or alternatives and checking the commitment to achieve the goal. This model is easy to use and even helps the client to ponder to goal, action plan and finally achieving it.

If the vision about the goal is clear, what exactly client is looking for to have, it would be easy to keep focus on that. To gain the clear picture of end result, the client should have a clear picture in his mind. While showing the thoughts through the words to the coach, client gets a lot of clarity and also it helps him to visualize the end result. The clearer is the picture, the more passionate would it be.

H-Hurdle

Once the goal is clear now comes the way to it. “H” in the model helps the coach to assist client to find the way to achieving goal and possible hurdle. It answers the question “How would you reach to your goal?” “What are the possible hurdles?” “If he encounters any hurdles how would he remove those?

O-Options

Coach also helps client to see through the changed perspective. Client can see what other options he has to get the results of his goals.

W-Willingness

Commitment to goal is imperative to achieve it. Coach should also check the willingness of client, whether it is a WANT or client has a will to do because “when there is a will, there is a way”. The best tool to use is the rating scale method to check the commitment level. Client can be asked to put himself on rating scale from 1 to 10. 1 is the lowest and 10 is the highest. If the client placed himself at 8-9, it shows he’s committed to it otherwise he needs to refocus his goal.
