Emotional Intelligence & Coaching
Emotional intelligence is to know our emotions, manage our feelings and how to recognize the same in others. This is so important in coaching because when we’re working with a client, we need to be able to understand how the client is feeling and how to interact with her in an appropriate way. In his book “Emotional Intelligence,” Daniel Goleman outlines four main concepts to emotional intelligence.
The ability to read one’s emotions and to recognize their impact to guide our decisions.
This involves controlling one’s emotions and adapting them to changes in circumstances.
3) Social Awareness
The ability to sense, understand and react to others’ emotions while comprehending social networks.
4) Relationship Management
The ability to inspire, influence and develop others in conflict. This is really important. In order to be a good coach, you must have a good grasp on your own emotional intelligence, in order to help others improve their emotional intelligence. By going through coach training, you focusing not only on learning the skills of coaching, but also learning to manage yourself, understanding who you are as an individual and who you are as a coach. Coach training improves your emotional intelligence.
