Become a Certified Coach in a Specialist Niche

When coaching was a new profession, 10 or 15 years ago, it was perfectly acceptable to simply call your self a coach - or perhaps a 'life coach' or 'business coach'. But today the coaching profession is well developed across many industries around the globe and the need to specialize or niche down is increasing. There are several reasons for this:

  • Calling yourself simply a 'coach' makes it very hard for your prospective clients to find you. People are not looking for generalist coaches anymore; they want specific help for specific challenges or issues.
  • The best coaches dont walk away from their previous lives or careers when becomming a coach. They integrate their years of experience and knowledge into highly crafted, well honed coaching niches.
  • People use the internet more and more for "shopping research" So even if it is a washing machine or a new car they are buying, and even if they plan to buy it arond the corner, firts they search online. To be found online when your prospective clients search for you, you need to be listed under osmething more speciic than "coach"
  • Clients exist in unique situations, cultures and circumstances. No two contexts are the same. As a coach you need to be able to tailor your coaching accordingly.

What is a Niche & Why Do You Need One?

We recently recorded a podcast episode on the importance of finding a niche when you are building your coaching practice.

Most new coaches struggle with finding just one niche or area to specialize in, they often have too many areas they are passionate about. This episode is motivation to dump all but one area of specialty.
