A Coaching Model Created by Joanne Lee

The thinking behind ACHIEVE…
- ACHIEVE provides a client-centered framework for the coaching relationship i.e., coaching conversation and coaching journey.
- Inspiring verbs serve as a reminder to give my Clients access to their full power so they can successfully achieve their self-determined goals and aspirations.
- ACHIEVE reflects my pragmatic nature – the word resonates with a wide range of Clients (patients, academics and industry).
- The basic structure draws from the GROW model by Sir John Whitmore; however some distinctions are noted and their influences are shown in brackets: The importance of a Coaching Agreement to set the stage for the coaching journey. (ICF)
- Steps 1-4 symbolises the ample time allowed for understanding what the Client really wants and where he/she is with their situation. (Coaching Funnel)
- Powerful words support creative thinking, reasoning, solution finding and empowerment to maximise the Client’s potential.(ICF and Project Management)
- VISION is a central to the model. VISION = Picture of the future + Sense of Purpose + Values. This aligns with the theoretical underpinnings of coaching, which conceptualizes “patients as lifelong learners whose individual values and sense of purpose facilitate their potential for change.”
- The final step ‘Empowering ownership’ is about making sure the Client owns his/her decision. The steps taken must be relevant and meaningful. It is also about gaining the knowledge, skills, confidence and motivation needed so they can reach their desired outcomes. (Project Management, Epidemiology and Ottawa Charter)
