Observation…
- Observing means… to look at the object of our attention.
Noticing what is, rather than judging. Not manipulating or classifying. We take note of what happens: what thoughts are passing by, what activities do we engage ourselves in? What is going on now, in this present moment of observation?
- In Coaching… observation is facilitated by creating present moment awareness.
- • Providing a non-judgemental, free space for client and his/her agenda to observe without any hesitation or restriction.
- Allocating most speaking to client, allowing silence, letting client set pace.
- Asking Powerful Questions, wide and open-ended, to encourage exploration.
- What is happening around this matter at the moment? How do you feel about it?
- Listening actively, with full attention, curiosity, and empathy.
- Paraphrasing, checking-in on perceptions
- I hear … I am curious: what does it mean?
- Providing Feedback, raising awareness on process and energy shifts.
- I can hear a shift in your voice.
- Acknowledgement: recognizing progress, wins, and qualities of client.
- I commend you on …
- It takes a great deal of awareness, commitment, and effort to do the work you have done. Congratulations!
…Observation
- Creating Awareness by…:
- Mirroring Back, rephrasing and reflecting on what Client has shared;
- Use of Tools, such as: Satisfaction Grid, Wheel of Life, Strengths Finder, Scaling, or any other tool that projects current happenings into a structure;
- Taking Perspectives by using Power Tools, Role Play, 3rd Party Perspective, thereby stepping out from own position, to see through different lenses.
Implementing ‘Present Moment Awareness’ as a constant momentum:
- Taking the Coaching Process into Everyday Life by constant practice of awareness in potentially every moment of your life: thereby providing an empowering structure for Client to apply the experience of Observation during a coaching process into daily life, creating an additional opportunity for learning to mature.
- Tools used: Breathing, Meditative Exercises for Mindfulness, Physical Exercise practiced mindfully, e.g. Yoga and Qigong/Martial Arts
- Tools are shared upon prior articulated interest, own motivation, and consent of Client only.
By Observation you will…
find yourself in a space of: there is no right or wrong. It simply is the way it is.
Where to go from here?
Find Purpose…
- Finding Purpose means… to know the cause you work and live for.
Being sure and aware of what we do, who we do it for, and what our activity delivers to the ones we do it for. It is the reason for us to do what we do, and to live the way we do.
- In Coaching… there are unlimited ways to look for and find that purpose…e.g.:
Open Exploration of Values:
- What do you want to stand for in this world? What about this is important to you?
- If you were as blank as a blank sheet of paper: what would you draw on it to make it part of your life?
- What makes life worth living for you?
- Looking at the activities you engage in: what do you do them for?
- Who and what do you admire? What do you admire them for?
Open Exploration of Underlying Beliefs:
- What do you really love about yourself? … What do you appreciate about this quality?
- What do you appreciate about the qualities of the activities you engage in?
- Looking at the values we have gotten to: what do they mean to you?
- If a bang had taken all you own, leaving you 1 moment to spend with yourself: what remains in you?
Visualisation of potential free from restriction, conditioning, and judgement, facilitating free flow of inherent creativity.
- You are given a magic wand to create what you would like to see in this world: what do you create?
- Seeing your creation in front of you: What is its intended effect?
…Find Purpose
- Providing Opportunity for Reflection by mirroring back what Client shared so he/she can take the
perspective of a receiver of the message rather than being the deliverer for gaining more clarity - Role Play to introduce a bird’s view or perspective of a 3rd person:
- I would like to share a story with you … (mirroring back/rephrasing) – how does this story make you feel?
- Having said that: if a friend came to you with exactly this situation: how would you see it now?
- Affirming trust and confidence by acknowledgement and feedback
- Maintaining open, free, non-judgemental coaching space
- Evolutionary Special: Creating Understanding and Clarity (upon interest and consent of Client only)
- Taking an inspiration from Evolutionary Astrology: what does the Evolutionary Axis in a Client’s birth chart reflect about the path of his/her soul? What is our understanding of it?
- Receiving energy work: connecting with soul’s purpose via Reiki Energy: how do you see it?
- Proactive energy work: practicing awareness on life’s vital energy (Qi/Prana) with Yoga/
Qigong: how does it feel?
By Finding Purpose you will…
find meaning in what you do, creating motivation and interest to act from within. The purpose
of your doing ultimately reflects your life’s purpose, your cause of being.
What do we do with it?
